Why Stone?

Stone, to me, is not merely a surface of work; it is the very beginning of human expression.

The earliest markings of humankind appeared on cave walls and rocky cliffsmoments when humans first sought to translate their inner worlds onto the outer face of nature.

Thousands of years have passed, yet those engravings remain;

for stone has always been the most faithful keeper of memory, the most enduring canvas of human creativity. Stone has shaped the very story of our survival.

It was with stone that the first tools for hunting were forged, stone that sheltered us within caves, and stone that revealed the great discoveries hidden within its mines.

Even today, some stones hold no material value, yet carry infinite spiritual weight such as the Black Stone, which for centuries has been revered as sacred by millions.

Stone was also the first medium through which artists sculpted form. Since then, it has drawn creators like a magnet, inviting them to carve, inscribe, and leave their trace upon its surface.

Perhaps this attraction lies in two truths:

stone is the emblem of endurance and permanence, and no two stones are ever alike.

Each carries its own color, texture, and character, making every artwork born from it inherently unique. Thus, art upon stone can never be replicated;

its originality is guaranteed by the material itself. For me, calligraphy on stone becomes a bridge connecting the primal gestures of humanity’s first artists with our present need to anchor meaning in a fleeting world.

A word written on stone is not a passing mark;

it is a sign of continuity, an echo of history that stretches from the caves of our ancestors

into the language of contemporary art.

saed CHangizi

I am Saeid Changizi, an artist who has been professionally exploring new narratives and shaping my own artistic identity through lines and colors for nearly three decades. Along this journey, I have worked in diverse artistic styles and disciplines such as calligraphy, painting, illumination, and miniature, while also mentoring many students.

Throughout these years, I have participated in numerous international exhibitions, gaining diverse experiences from living and working in different countries.

My works are inspired by daily life and nature, where tradition, art, and the natural world come together. The simplicity and harmony with nature in my creations allow the audience to possess not only a unique and refined piece of art but also to experience a special connection between art and the environment.

At present, I have chosen the United Arab Emirates as my new home a place where art is valued and artists are treated with deep respect.

The Cry of Stone

At the threshold of my fiftieth year of life, and after three decades of professional artistic activity, I made the decision to migrate to the United Arab Emirates.

I deeply wished that the beginning of this new chapter in my artistic journey would be accompanied by a kind of renewal, a rebirth, and the establishment of an independent identity.

From the very outset, it was important to me that the collection I create would have a direct connection with the climate and the rich culture of the Emirati land and its people. For days and months, I reflected on what materials and what style I might employ to express this sincere and rooted connection more clearly.

Eventually, I arrived at the idea of using the native stones and woods of the Emirates; for these materials spring from the very soil of this land. They carry a native essence and have borne, across centuries and generations, the thoughts and ideas embedded in this soil.

I could have relied on other styles and imported materials, but the spirit of homeland and the love for this land would not have been embodied within them.

Now, with respect and gratitude to the hospitable and art-loving nation of the United Arab Emirates, I name my first art collection created in this country “The Cry of Stones” and present it to them.

I hope this work will be a humble tribute to their kindness and their love of art.
